OTTUMWA — Betty L. McDavitt, 91, of 264 S. Moore St., died at 2:45 p.m. October 16, 2013, at her home.
She was born July 31, 1922, in Ottumwa to Bert and Maggie Bray Mace. She married Ernest Harland Sr., and he preceded her in death. She married William Mark McDavitt, and he preceded her in death.
Betty worked at the Good Samaritan nursing home, caring for the elderly, and then cared for the elderly in their homes. Her favorite pastime was playing cards every Sunday with family.
Surviving are five daughters, Sally Amos, Peggy (Jack) Mills, Linda Shirley, Jewel Frederick and Kathy Crane; two sons, David Harland and Ernest “Bud” (Caroline) Harland Jr.; two stepsons, Steve (Judy) McDavitt and Phil McDavitt; grandchildren, Tammy and Stanley Davis, Kelly, Kevin, Kimberly, Shelly, Cindy and Stacy Harland, Lisa McConnell, Betty Barnes, Melinda Reger and Theresa Roush, Julie, Angela, Jewel Dawn, Ashley, Shawn and David Scott Harland, Jimmie Taylor, Jeanne (Cory) Benge, Alan (Deanne) and Jeff (Cathy) Frederick, Dustin and Christin McDavitt; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rita Baker; six grandchildren, Chris Harland, Lee Baker and Troy Harland and three infants; a sister, Donna Oldaker; and a brother, Edwin Mace.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
