OTTUMWA — Janet C. Jamison, 77, of 1308 Center St. Place, died at 6:30 a.m. October 27, 2013 at the Southridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Marshalltown.
She was born March 31, 1936 in Ottumwa to Forrest D. and Lavelle Prevo Chaplin. She married Joseph Courtenay Jamison on February 10, 1973. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1982.
Having grown up in Davis and Wapello Counties, Janet was a graduate of Ottumwa High School. She served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, stationed in Japan. Janet had lived in Arizona, moving back to Ottumwa in 1983.
She had attended Willard St. United Methodist Church and had volunteered with Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties.
Surviving is a daughter, Laura (Bill) Farrington II of Marshalltown; a son, Forrest Courtenay (Dorothy) Jamison of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Erit Horn, Malorie Jamison, Madison and Jacob Farrington; two sisters, Mary Etta Luke of Ottumwa and Patricia (Lyle) Schumacher of Layton, UT; a brother, John (Janet) Chaplin of Galveston, TX.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Stockham and a brother, Dean Chaplin.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Ulrich officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Janet had requested that her casket remain closed.Cremation will follow the service.
