---- — LOVILIA — Dortha Asher, 97, died peacefully, supported by family and friends, Nov. 7, 2013.
Dortha was born on April 12, 1916, to Bertha and Judson Dannels in Lovilia. She attended several different schools in communities near and around Albia and graduated from Lovilia High School in 1934. Dortha married Donald Asher in 1935 and celebrated 75 years of marriage before his passing. She was a long-standing active member of the First Christian Church in Albia and positively influenced the lives of many people. She will be remembered by family and friends as a true artist who willingly shared her creativity and skill in quilting, sewing, painting and basket-weaving — to mention only a few of her many talents.
Dortha was the oldest of seven children and is survived by one brother, Donald Dannels of Newton. She was the beloved mother of Donna Wood of Huntley, Ill., Marla (Layton) Zbornik, Rudd, and Jo Ann Thompson (Bruce), Spokane, Wash. She will be dearly missed by her six grandchildren, Eric Wood of Elmhurst, Ill., Janet Frost, Pewaukee, Wis., Layton Zbornik III of Mason City, Travis Zbornik, Durango, Colo., Jessica Thompson of Brisbane, Australia, and Tyler Thompson of Kenmore, Wash.; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew and Peter Frost, Emma and Sam Jordan-Wood, Bryan and Ethan Davis and Liam Thompson.
A memorial service is being held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Albia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a memorial fund in Dortha’s name at the First Christian Church in Albia.
