OTTUMWA — Dennis Wayne Stewart, 60, died April 5, 2014, surrounded by family at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born on July 11, 1953, in Bloomfield, to Rex Wayne and Mary Lou (Albright) Stewart. He graduated from Davis County High School in 1971 and later from William Penn College in Oskaloosa. He married Susan Ann Augspurger on July 21, 1973.
Dennis worked 33 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 2005. He also farmed in Davis County and was a longtime cow/calf producer. After retiring from Deere, he worked as a crop adjuster for Great American Insurance Co. He was an accomplished woodworker and loved golfing and fishing. He spent many enjoyable hours pursuing those activities with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; son, Nolan (Cassie) of Bloomfield; two granddaughters, Blakelyn and Parker; two sisters, Joyce (Lyle) Spurgeon of Drakesville and Wanda (Jerry) Swanberg of Ankeny; his father of Drakesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Per his wishes, a private memorial service was held and the body was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Bloomfield Country Club.
