BLOOMFIELD — Esther Louise Van Horn, 84, of Bloomfield, died June 16, 2013 at the Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born April 19, 1929 in Mechanicsville to Lawrence and Dorothy Cole Henderson. She married Bob Van Horn on Feb. 15, 1948 in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2011. Esther graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1947 and attended Northeast Missouri State University where she earned a degree in education. She taught first grade in the Davis County School System for 24 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Davis County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, writing short stories and photography. Esther also liked playing the guitar and would often play for her students.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Roseanna) Van Horn of Springfield, Va., Danny (Debbie) Van Horn of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Sandra (Chuck Erickson) of Honolulu, Hawaii, Chris (Jennifer) Jackson, Dustin (Suzanne) Van Horn, both of Bloomfield, Deborah (David) Watson of Burke, Va.; and nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Faith and Cody Van Horn, Courtney, Cameren, Jenna and Jeran Jackson, and Lily and Daniel Watson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steven Van Horn; two brothers, Don and Norman Henderson; and a sister, Audrey Metz.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Bloomfield Christian Church; Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
