FAIRFIELD — Harriet A. Adam, 87, of Fairfield, passed away June 19, 2013 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
Mrs. Adam was born July 24, 1925 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles F. and Clara Hammes Greiner. She married Elmer M. Adam at St. James Catholic Church in Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Adam started farming in 1947 in Washington County, then moved to Jefferson County in 1951.
She was a housewife and homemaker all of her life. Mrs. Adam was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield and Helping Hands. Mr. Adam passed away on June 9, 2008.
Mrs. Adam's hobbies were watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Boston Red Sox baseball, gardening, flowers, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include seven children: Dennis Adam and wife Andra; Bonnie Kessel and husband Mike; Robert Adam and wife Nanette; James and wife Rebecca; Marvin Joseph and wife JoAnn, all of Fairfield; Charles Adam and wife Susan of La Belle, Mo.; and Jan McDonough and husband Mike of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren plus 23 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her brother Wilford Greiner of Washington and sister Marrietta Greiner of Campbellport, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandchild, parents and six brothers and two sisters.
A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield; the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Open visitation will be from 12-4 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home and from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
