Donna Keeton, 64, Lovilia

LOVILIA — Donna Rae (Phipps) Keeton, 64, of Newton, died May 19, 2012, under the care of Skiff Hospice at her home in Newton.

Donna was born Dec. 17, 1947, to Hilbert and Joy (Davis) Phipps in Newton and was raised just outside of Lovilia. Rev. Wesley Lowery married Donna and Joe on July 24, 1966, at the EUB Church in Lovilia.

A graduate of Albia High School, class of 1966, Donna held several positions once her kids were school age, but her favorite and most profitable jobs were wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She enjoyed spending time at and being involved in church. She was a member of the Independent Bible Church of Bussey until moving to O’Fallon, Mo., in 1992. Donna was then a member of Hope Bible Church, where she was reunited with Pastor Bruce R. Chulka, formerly the pastor in Bussey. In 2000, the opportunity came up to move back to Iowa and spend more time with her kids and grandkids. Once back in Newton, she was a member of Zoar Church, which then became Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton, and she served as the missions’ coordinator until shortly before her passing.

Donna is survived by her husband, Joe Keeton of Newton; her mother, Joy Phipps of Newton; three children, Mark (Lisa) Keeton of Albia, Brian (LaNita) Keeton of Newton and David (Dana) Keeton of Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren, Deanna and Aaron, Jonah and Tessa, Jaxon and Gannon; three brothers, Dick (Noreen) Phipps of Rapid City, S.D., David (Kathy) Phipps of Hartford, Conn., and Dennis of Springfield, Ill.; mother-in-law, Edith Blomgren of Lovilia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Jo, on Jan. 21, 1968; a stillborn son on Oct. 15, 1968; and her father, Hilbert Phipps on Aug. 13, 2003.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Skiff Hospice or in Donna’s name may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the funeral home.
