BLOOMFIELD — Larry Franklin Dixon, 80, of Bloomfield, died June 11, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1933, in Bloomfield to Lester C. and Ruby N. Rees Dixon. He married Sandra Swank on Aug. 23, 1959, in Ottumwa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Larry was a teacher and was the principal at Grinnell High School in Grinnell for 16 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and served on several committees. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Optimist Club, charter member of Bloomfield Main Street, Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion, Bloomfield Public Library Board, Kiwanis Club in Grinnell and the Jay Wilburn Bible Study Group at his church.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kevin Dixon of Hampton, Va., Randy (Kimberly) Dixon of Bloomfield; daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Mostovych of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Alexander, Sophia and Stefan Mostovych, Joshua, Jared, Jayden and Jace Dixon; three brothers, Dean (Dorothy) Dixon, Jack (Jeannie) Dixon, both of Bloomfield, Gene (Jeri) Dixon of Centerville; and a sister, Karen Sue (Bruce) Rosengren of Plymouth, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Dixon; and a sister, Virginia Lea Dixon.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church; Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars, Lewy Body Dementia Association, and the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
