---- — BLAKESBURG – Opal O. Welsh, 88, of 7223 235th St., died at 9:22 a.m. September 15, 2013, at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia.

She was born July 24, 1925, in Percy to Cecil and Ona Harrington Decker. She married William “Bill” Welsh December 24, 1944.

A graduate of Moulton High School, she had worked for Gerald and Mary Young at the newspaper office in Blakesburg, for the donut shop in Albia and at Standard Kollsman in Ottumwa.

She helped her husband with the Blakesburg Saddle Club. The two of them enjoyed square dancing together.

Surviving are her husband, Bill; two sons, Dale and Gary Welsh, both of Blakesburg; four sisters, Mary Davis and Betty Anselma, both of Ottumwa, Wilma Ryan of Brighton, Colo., Barbara Vestal of Unionville, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Viola Booth and Audry Davis.

Her body has been cremated. Graveside memorial services and inurnment will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Chisman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.
