OTTUMWA — Donald E. Riley, 83, of Davenport, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away peacefully with his loving wife and children by his side on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport, after a brief illness.

Donald Edwin Riley was born on April 14, 1930, in Ottumwa, a son of Donald A. and Elizabeth (Horan) Riley. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Ottumwa in 1948 and then proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1954. He married Lois (O’Hara) Voss on Sept. 7, 1968, and they shared 45 wonderful years together. He was a wonderful man with a dry Irish wit who loved his family above all else.

Those left to honor his memory are his beloved wife, Lois; two daughters, Linda (Joe) Behan and Marybeth (Tom) Guy; and one son, Joe (Nora) Riley; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters; his sisters, Loretta Tracy and Shirley (Dave) McLaughlin; his brothers, Fran (Mary Kay) Riley, Dan (Pat) Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Phil (Joyce) Riley; and brother-in-law, Tom Tracy. May they rest in peace.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial were held Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial is at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.

The Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport, assisted his family with arrangements.
