ALBIA — Marilyn Louise Nelson, 80, of Hiteman, passed away Dec. 2, 2013, under the care of Monroe County Hospice at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Marilyn was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Keosauqua to Lawrence and Selma (Clemens) Boyer. She married Archie Richard Nelson on Oct. 6, 1951, in Memphis, Mo. They shared 60 years of marriage before Archie’s passing on Dec. 26, 2011.
Marilyn grew up and attended country school and high school in Douds. She worked various jobs before starting at Maytag and retiring in 1992 after 25 years.
She enjoyed cooking, being outdoors and spending time with her family. She was also very particular about her home and always kept it immaculate.
Marilyn is survived by three grandsons, Les (Julie) Nelson of Albia, Kevin (Joey) Nelson of Albia and Rick (Melissa) Nelson of Hiteman; seven great grandchildren, Tiffany, Austin, Garrett, Brandon, Dylan, Courtney and Dezirae; and three sisters, Irene Stagers, Wilma McVey and Ester Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie; a son, Kenneth; a sister, Dorothy Wood; and three brothers, John, Wayne and Harold Boyer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Hiteman Cemetery in Hiteman.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Marilyn’s family present from 6-8 p.m.
An open memorial has been established in Marilyn’s name.
