James Kevin Burnside, 48, of Knoxville, died Aug. 22, 2011, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital in Knoxville.
He was born July 6, 1963, in Plymouth, Ind., to Lloyd Paul and Christine Ann (Starcevich) Burnside. Jim was raised in Monroe County and graduated from Albia High School in 1981.
On Oct. 12, 1991, James and Vicki Lee Frey were married and were blessed with one son, Andrew. They were later divorced. Jim met a special friend, Diana Darnell, and they shared 17 years together.
Jim loved and enjoyed helping his family; he was a very skilled craftsman. He loved motorcycling. His favorite activity was cross-country trips with his family. Jim was a member and former catechist of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and also attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Jim worked for 21 years with the Pella Corporation.
James is survived by his special friend, Diana Marie Darnell of Knoxville; one son, Andrew Burnside of Albia; his parents, Paul Burnside (Deanna Allen) of Centerville and Christine (Paul) Mihalovich of Moravia; and one brother, Paul (Carol) Burnside of Ottumwa.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Olga and Marion Starcevich and Lloyd and Rachel Burnside.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church; the Revs. Steve Ebel and Michael Volkmer officiating. The family will be present to greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time. A private family burial will follow services at a later date.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening.
