FLORIS — Leona Marie McClure, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died Oct. 27, 2013, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born July 8, 1928, in North Chicago to Opal and Mabel Wiseman Talley. She married Victor McClure Nov. 30, 1947, in Floris after his discharge from the U.S. Navy during World War II. Leona lived in the Floris area her entire life and was a lifelong member of the Floris Baptist Church. She made many friends throughout her career in teaching, retail sales and as a volunteer at the Heartland Pregnancy Center in Ottumwa.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband; daughter, Vicki Berardi of Des Moines; two sons, Greg McClure and Phil (Sheila) McClure, both of Floris; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene (Carol) Talley of Akron, Ohio; and a sister, Connie (Larry) Birdsall of Ankeny.
She was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson, Dominique Clark; sister, Dorothy Nicklin; and a son-in-law, Romeo Berardi.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Floris Baptist Church; Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Floris Baptist Church and the Heartland Pregnancy Center.
