OTTUMWA — John W. “Bill” Ridge, 78, of 174 N. Ward St., died at 3:54 p.m. November 3, 2013, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born March 6, 1935, in Glenwood, Mo., to John F. and Veda L. McKnight Ridge. He married Keturah True on January 30, 1958.
John was a graduate of Queen City High School in Queen City, Mo., and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He worked for 30 years at Lowenberg Bakery and then worked for Lagerstrom Sanitation.
Surviving are his wife, Keturah; two sons, John W. (Darci) Ridge II of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Brian L. (Lisa) Ridge of Marion; two daughters, Angela (Larry) Shepherd of Ottumwa and Holly (Ronnie) Ridge Stephens of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Destinee, Britni, Cody, Brandon, Austin, Parker, Andrew, Allyson, Dylan, Dalton and Lindsay; two great-grandchildren, Triston and Skylar; four sisters, Bertha (Gene) Crump and Betty Martin both of Kirksville, Mo., Carolyn (Dick) Evans of Glenwood, Mo., Connie (Dave) Spurgeon of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Larry (Gayle) Ridge of Long Grove and Charles Ridge of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser and Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
