OTTUMWA — Harold E. Marsh, 91, of Ottumwa, died June 23, 2013 at his home after a short period of cancer.
He was born in Kirkville to Wesley and Bessie H. Wright Marsh. He married Lois L. Savage at the Eldon Methodist Church on April 20, 1946. Lois preceded him in death on March 15, 2008.
Harold and Lois both graduated from Eldon High School. Harold was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy at the Ottumwa Naval Air Station and in the Pacific Islands. Harold was employed at John Deere Ottumwa Works and then retired as a letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service in Ottumwa in 1978.
He was a long-time member of Willard St. United Methodist Church. Harold and Lois enjoyed many years of square dancing, Texas snowbirding, traveling and camping with numerous friends. He also enjoyed a lifetime of carpentry and inventing.
Surviving are his sons, Craig (Lana) Marsh of Urbandale and Virgil (Debbie) Marsh of Broken Arrow, Okla.; six grandchildren, Clint and Kirk Marsh, Jessica (Josh) Fausset, Molly Marsh, Emily Lord, Paul Lord; seven great-grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Elsie, Esme, Isaiah, Isabelle and Jaxson; a sister, Ethel (Gordon) Bircher and a brother, Dwight Marsh.
Harold was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Peterson; two brothers, Carl and Dale; and three sisters, Bernice MacDonald, Mary Louise Marsh and Pauline Goodman.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
