OTTUMWA — Ruth Elizabeth Dawson, 84, formerly of 5 Silverwood Drive, died April 23, 2013 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born June 26, 1928 in Ottumwa to Walter R. and Iva Jenkins McNulty. She married Raymond L. Dawson on Dec. 31, 1947. He preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 2002.
Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Ottumwa High School.
She was a member of Davis St. Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was involved with the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Ruth had been a member of the Letter Carriers Auxiliary and O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving is a son, Tom (Cheryl) Dawson of Ottumwa; four daughters, Ramona Vaux, Sue (Jim) McDaniel and Patti Sutton all of Ottumwa, Bev Dawson of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sally McNulty of Ottumwa and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Carol Diane Funk and infant, Cheryl Ann Dawson; a granddaughter, Cathryn Vaux; three brothers, Walter A. McNulty, Melvin McNulty and Dick Reese; two sisters, Clara McNulty and Sylvia Henson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Davis St. Christian Church with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Davis St. Christian Church.
