OTTUMWA — Dorothy Lucille Smith Nupp Wallace, 90, of Ottumwa, died April 3, 2012, at her home.
She was born March 24, 1923, in Floris, at the home of her grandparents, to William and Gail Conner Smith. She married Charles Silbert Nupp Jr. in 1941. They farmed near Douds and had a son, David Allen. She married Howard Wallace in 1955 and worked with him in the delivery of rock, water, sand, gravel and asphalt.
She was a member of Davis Street Christian Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also worked at the John Morrell plant for many years and did domestic work in homes in Ottumwa. She and Howard spent many years traveling the United States and Texas, where they owned a home and wintered developing many life-long friendships. She was a strongly, determined, hard-working conservative woman.
Survivors include her grandson, Clinton (Sherrie) Nupp; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey and Colton; brothers, Darrell and Dwayne; sisters, Deanna Snelling, Pauline Burdett, Doris Bodkins and Delores Smith; and respective nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, David in 1994; her husband, Howard in 2011 and her brother, Donald in 2009.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m Saturday at Davis Street Christian Church; with Pastor Jim Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. A luncheon at the church will follow internment.
Open visitation begins 9 a.m. Friday at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home with family present during the day.
