Barbara Doran

HOUSTON — Barbara Jane Grey Doran, 72, died April 7, 2013, at Houston Hospice.

She was born on March 31, 1941 in Lodi, Ohio, the daughter of John William and Louise Kinjevari Grey. She was wife of Leo Michael Doran Sr.

Barbara was a teacher for 53 years. She taught in the Jewish community for over three decades. She also taught on the Zuni Indian Reservation, Zuni, N.M. Barbara has been an icon in the education profession. She was also a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and active in ministry in the church. Barbara was devoted to her husband, her family and her students. Sean P. Doran was taught by Barbara on the Zuni Indian Reservation.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 34 years, Leo Michael Sr.; her brothers, John (Mary Beth) Grey of Sarasota, Fla., Robert (Wendy) Grey of Orlando, Fla., and Philip Grey of Akron, Ohio; sister, Deborah (Udell) Spears of San Antonio, Texas; niece, Majah Brown, and great-nephew, Kaleb Brown, both of San Antonio; a nephew, Capt. Daaron Spears of Ft Carson, Colo.; her husband’s sister, Rita Ann Flanders of Kansas City, Mo.; her husband’s brother, Paul B. Doran of Newton; Leo Michael Doran Jr. of Kansas City, Mo. and Sean P. Doran of Irving, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, her brother Phllip’s wife, Terri.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Her burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77038.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, Texas 77401. The family will also greet visitors one hour prior to the time of the funeral Mass at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

A memorial tribute for Barbara will also be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Young Israel of Houston, 7823 Ludington Drive, Houston, Texas 77071.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Road, Houston, Texas 77025, or the school where Barbara was a much beloved teacher, Sephardic Gan Torat Emet School, 9730 Hillcroft Ave., Houston, Texas 77096.
