OTTUMWA — Mark A. Henson, 52, of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 8:40 p.m. June 8, 2014, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on July 12, 1961, in Ottumwa to Donald L. and Delores Ann Tutokey Henson. He married Patty Gobel on Dec. 28, 2004, in Knoxville, Illinois. She survives and lives in Knoxville, Illinois.
Mark was educated and graduated from the Ottumwa High School. He attended the University of Iowa, receiving his bachelor’s degree in business administration and then attending Michigan State, earning a certificate from the Turfgrass Management Agricultural Program.
He was a manager for greens keeper for several golf courses, then he worked as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad for 15 years. He was the local chairman of UTU 195 Galesburg Division. He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed gardening, growing rose bushes and spending time with his grandchildren and his faithful canine companions, Maddie and Sidney.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his stepchildren, Sean (Kelly) Gerold of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Christopher Gerold of Bridgeport, Illinois, and Caleb (Lindsey) Gerold of Crawfordsville, Indiana; his father; his brother, Michael (Jill) Henson of Ankeny; and his niece, Stephanie Henson. His six grandchildren survive, Seth Whiles, Riley Gerold, Landon Gerold, Emma Whiles, Peyton Gerold and Graham Gerold.
He was preceded in death by his mother; Uncles Frank Tutokey and Jim Henson; and his grandparents.
A visitation service will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
