OTTUMWA — Gordon L. Bircher, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 12 p.m. June 10, 2014, at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
He was born November 24, 1930, in Fremont, Iowa, to Lonnie and Edna Brown Bircher. He married Ethel L. Marsh on June 25, 1965.
A graduate of Blakesburg High School, Gordon had worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and J.W. Edgerly & Co. He then worked for more than 20 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church and U.A.W. Local 74 Retirees. Gordon enjoyed old tractors and being outdoors. He had made some beautiful ornamental wrought iron.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Jana (Gregg) Johnston of Packwood; four grandchildren, Stephanie Dodson (Kyle Jacobson), Amanda Dodson (Zach Halblom) both of North Liberty, Monica (Andrew) Steckel of Grimes and Erica Johnston of Muscatine; three sisters, Mary Ellen Lunkley of Ottumwa, Carol Shilling of Runnells and Donna Howard of Orchard; and a brother, Dan (Connie) Bircher of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Altmaier officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
