---- — ALBIA — Ruth Pauline Morgan, 88, of Albia, left her earthly home June 12, 2014, under the care of Monroe County Hospice and surrounded by her family at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Ruth was born July 6, 1925, in Des Moines to Roy James and Esther (Swartz) Spears. She married Lloyd Alymer Morgan on Nov. 18, 1945, at the United Brethren Church in Albia, and to this union three children were born, Ruth Ann, Sue and Craig. They shared 67 years of marriage and numerous adventures before Lloyd’s passing on July 6, 2013.
Ruth attended country schools in Monroe County through eighth grade and graduated from Albia High School in 1942. Then, she attended Iowa American Business College. She worked at United Finance Company in Ottumwa and First Iowa State Bank in Albia before she and Lloyd moved to California. There, she worked at North American Aviation and for the credit union, in which she became branch manager of in Downey, California. Ruth and Lloyd moved back to Albia in 1965. Ruth became deputy county treasurer and later Monroe County treasurer, retiring in 1988.
Ruth was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia and United Methodist Women. She volunteered with hospice and in the schools. She enjoyed reading, playing the trombone and loved to dance and travel. She also cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of them all.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Ruth Ann (Jackie) Johnson and Sue (John) Goode; one son, Craig (Beth) Morgan; six grandchildren, Noland (Melia) Johnson, Melissa Johnson, (Bruce Kingsbury), Erik (Jennifer) Goode, Aimee (Jonathan) Head, Joshua (Dawn) Morgan and Curtis Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by a sister, Norma (Bill) Henderson; a brother, Irvin Spears; a sister-in-law, Frances Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Esther; her husband, Lloyd Morgan; a brother, Dan Spears; and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Spears.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia; Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Ruth’s family present throughout the day and evening.
