OTTUMWA — Jean Smith, 79, of 514 Minneopa Ave. died at 9:55 a.m. June 14, 2014 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born January 13, 1935 in Ottumwa to Paul and Mary Shelangoski Hull. She married William G. “Bill” Smith on April 23, 1953. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2009.
Jean graduated from Ottumwa Heights and had worked for Guy’s Potato Chips , Wapello County Courthouse and had worked as a secretary for Seton School.
She loved sports and going to her grandchildren’s games. Jean also loved to bake, playing bingo, was an avid reader and Hawkeye fan.
Surviving are three sons, Gary (Rhonda) Smith, Terry (Lisa) Smith, and Michael Smith all of Ottumwa; two daughters, Amy Smith and Mary Gina (Joseph) McWilliams both of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, James, Lacey, Jonathan, Dustin, Cooper, and Carson Smith, James Terrell and BreAnn Rhodes; seven great- grandchildren; two sisters, Ann (Lee) Weaver of Olathe, KS and Marcia Hackett of Williamsburg, OH.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Morris and two brothers, Paul Hull, Jr. and Charles Hull.
Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. At Jean’s request, the casket will remain closed.
