OTTUMWA — Ralph E. Woodard, 81, of 16 Schwartz Dr. died at 11:45 p.m. June 21, 2014 at Hospice House.
He was born June 9, 1933 in Ottumwa, IA, to Norlan Edward and Dorothy Irene Wey Woodard. He married Joan Hurley on August 1, 1952. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2005. He married Patricia Shepherd October of 2006.
A graduate of Eddyville High School in 1951, he was a state Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He worked 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring as a supervisor in 1986.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, watching college sports, NASCAR, playing cards and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Randy (Cindy) Woodard of Ottumwa; three daughters, Barbara (John) Hartley and Linda Sue Hutchinson both of Ottumwa and Joni (John) Vittetoe of Omaha; a stepdaughter, Stephanie (Jeff) Becker of Norfolk, VA; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Woodard of Ottumwa, Lawrence “Jeep” Woodard of Eldon, Lloyd Woodard of Fremont, Norlan A. “Cork” Woodard of Oskaloosa, Jim (Barbara) Woodard of Hedrick and Jack (Sue) Woodard of Batavia; two sisters, Dorothy “DI” (Don) DeMarse of Oskaloosa and Lois (Kim) Kehe of Tripoli.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Shrimplin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
