Marjorie Peta

OTTUMWA — Marjorie Therese Peta, of Denver, Colorado, died June 29, 2014, at Hospice House in Ottumwa of glioblastoma.

She was born October 24, 1957, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She faced cancer with courage and a sense of humor.

Marj loved her life in Denver. She enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, movies, tap dancing, spin class at CO Athletic club, woodworking, reading, cooking and her pet cats. She was a longtime volunteer for Dumb Friends League and Volunteer Outdoors Colorado and was a plasma donor. Marj traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and Asia, survived Hurricane George while in St. Croix and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. She graduated from Linn-Mar High School, Marion, Iowa. After graduating from Omaha School of Design, she worked as a commercial artist for many years. She then obtained a degree from ITT Technical Institute and worked for Airport Design Group as a CAD Tech.

Special thanks to the exceptional caregivers at Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties; Dr. Arenson, Peggy, Luci, Nurse Mary and other members of Marj’s Colorado medical team; to wonderful friends Elizabeth, Shay and Tracy; and others who were with Marj on this journey.

Marj is survived by her mother, Darlene of Ottumwa; sisters, Sue (Kevin) Garaghty of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Mary Sigman (Dennis Zellers) of Ottumwa; brothers, Bill (Beth) of Chanhassen, Minnesota, David (Rhonda) of Gillette, Wyoming, Jim (Linda) of Mitchell, South Dakota, Tom (Pam) of Mesa, Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, William; a sister, Jane; a nephew, Max Andrew Sigman; grandparents and other relatives.

Memorial Mass will be Friday, August 8, 2014, at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father James Betzen, CPPS presiding. Inurnment will be private. Memorial services will be held in Denver at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be given to Hospice Serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501 or Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, Colorado 80231.
