KIRKVILLE — Jesse A. “Jerry” Fridley Sr., 81, of Kirkville, died at 1:20 p.m. July 3, 2014.
He was born April 2, 1933, in Selma, Iowa, to John William and Myrtle Mae Farrington Fridley. He married Rosemary Shilling on July 4, 1953. She preceded him in death January 13, 2007.
Jerry served in the military during the Korean War. He had worked at Carter Steel in Oskaloosa, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple.
Surviving are three sons, Jesse (Ellen) Fridley Jr. and John (Shelly) Fridley, both of Kirkville, Timothy (Lesley) Fridley of Parkerville, Kansas; four daughters, Diana Nichols of Eddyville, Wanda (Gregg) Songer of Ottumwa, Georgia (Larry) Miller of Kirkville and Martha (Donald) Helleur of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Maxwell of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, James “Jimmy” Fridley; a great-grandson, Milez Bell; three brothers, Jim Fridley, Jack Fridley, Howard Fridley; three sisters, Anna Marie Essary, Harriett McKim and Louise Blake.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Kirkville. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and O. B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m. Monday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
