DAVENPORT — Melvin E. “Pete” Williams, 77, of Davenport and formerly of Eddyville, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Melvin Earl Williams was born Jan. 25, 1937 in Eddyville to Nicholas and Josie (Monzlock) Williams. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Helen Beary Aug. 28, 1959 in Weller, Iowa. Pete worked 30 years for Meadow Gold Dairy retiring in 1990.
Pete loved the outdoors and traveling with his family whether it was camping, skiing or mushroom hunting. On occasion, he was known to escape to a fishing hole, but he cherished his time with his wife and family. He was very active in prior years with the Legion high school baseball program in Ottumwa, serving as field groomer, bus driver, trainer and whatever else was needed.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 55 years, Helen and their children, Kevin (Cindy) Williams of Aledo, Texas, Bob (Loita) Williams of Lovilia, Joan (Chris) Fogle of Pleasant Hill, Amy Williams (Tom Murphy) of Des Moines and Julie (Ron) Russo of Champaign, Illinois; grandchildren, Rachel, Madison, and Carly Williams, Sadie (William) Dykstra, Katie and Christian Williams, Christopher, Jonathan (Stormi), Benjamin (Amanda) Fogle, Matthew Williams, Logan and Maddie Murphy, and Max Russo; great-grandchildren, Carson, Garrett, Parker, Jackson and Roselynn; his siblings, Billy Williams, Marie (Al) Hipsher, all of Ottumwa, and Fanny (Barney) McKittrick, Las Vegas, Nevada; his sisters-in-law, Jerretta Williams, Ottumwa, and Mary Williams, Davenport; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wayne, Jake, Max, Dale, John and Nick. May they rest in peace.
Memorial services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main St., Davenport. Honoring his wishes, the rite of cremation has been accorded and inurnment will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
