OTTUMWA — Alex H. LeGrande, 82, of 521 S. Ransom St., died July 14, 2014, at home.
He was born August 10, 1931, in Ottumwa to Paul E. and Dorothy Sells LeGrande. He married Naomi Hill on October 23, 1954.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Alex served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for 13 years for the CB&Q Railroad and for 27 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi; two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Wilson of Blakesburg and Pam (Dan) Hoffman of Fremont, Nebraska; a son, Phil (Amanda) LeGrande of Agency; six grandchildren, Angie, Natika, Ashley, Haley, Cassandra and Jake; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil “Bud” LeGrande of Ottumwa; a sister, Jerry Gaffey of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Benedict and a grandson, Alex Mabe.
His body has been cremated.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Elks Club, 413 S. Iowa Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa, on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
