OTTUMWA — Jimmie Lee McElroy, 64 of 826 W. Third St., died at 7:53 p.m. July 14, 2014, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born September 12, 1949, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Marion and Vada Bernice Bartlow McElroy. He married Vera Moffatt on October 15, 1966.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, Jimmie had attended Ottumwa High School. He had worked for Meadow Gold Dairy for 11 years, and then worked 32 years at Al-jon, retiring in 2010.
He was a charter member of Sons of the American Legion and Sons of the VFW. Jimmie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and spending time at the lake.
Surviving are his wife, Vera; a son, Chris (Michelle) McElroy of Ottumwa; a daughter, Kim (Mike) Rupe of Eldon; seven grandchildren, Christopher McElroy, Jamie (Brett) Shull, Bethanie McElroy, Sydnie McElroy, Grant Grooms, Nicholas McElroy and Sara McElroy; three great-grandchildren, Zaden, Derrick and Dakota Shull; his mother, Bernice McElroy of Ottumwa; two brothers, Tom (Joyce) McElroy and Marvin McElroy, both of Ottumwa; three sisters, Peggy (Tim) Roberts, Pam McNabb and Marilyn Reyes all of Ottumwa; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Lee McElroy; a grandson, Clay McElroy; a brother, Patrick McElroy and his father, Marion McElroy.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
