BLAKESBURG — Betty Laurene Klone, 89, of Blakesburg, died peacefully the evening of July 15, 2014, at the Ridgewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Ottumwa.
Betty was born on Dec. 15, 1924, in Eddyville, the daughter of John and Dora (Bown) Waters. Betty was raised in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School in the early 1940s.
After high school Betty attended William Penn College, receiving her teaching certificate, and taught country schools in Monroe County until 1954. After teaching, she was a homemaker and worked for a short time as the activities director with the Jefferson Square Manor.
On Nov. 26, 1952, in Ottumwa, Betty and Robert Eugene Klone were united in marriage. Betty and Bob shared 41 years of marriage together before Bob died on Oct. 22, 1993.
Betty was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Ottumwa, and she enjoyed gardening and taking care of animals.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Mike Johnson of Eddyville; three grandchildren, Jeff (Kym) Johnson, Tim (Lisa) Johnson and Jennifer (Jason) Thompson; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents John and Dora; her husband, Bob; three sisters, Lillie White, Goldie Blackwood and Mary Brady; and two brothers, John and Clarence Waters.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery of Eddyville.
Visitation for Betty will be open to the public at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting Betty’s family with services.
