Mildred Gibson, 86, Lancaster, Mo.

LANCASTER, MO. — Mildred Gertrude “Gertie” Gibson, 86, of Lancaster, Mo., passed away on May 29, 2012, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo.

The daughter of William Clifford and Esther (Swindler) York, Gertie was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in rural Lancaster, Mo. On Sept. 25, 1944, in Olathe, Kan., she was united in marriage to Don Gibson, and to this union two sons were born, Mike and David.

She attended Jaybird Darby Rural School and later graduated from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Mo. Gertie was a very devoted member of the Orleans Church of Christ in Moulton while her health permitted. She worked in the telephone office in Lancaster and Kirksville, Mo., followed by working at Bruce’s Furniture in Bloomfield for many years as a sales representative. Because of Gertie’s wonderful personality, she was able to make friends easily. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and her family will certainly miss her contagious laughter.

Gertie is survived by her husband, Don Gibson of Lancaster, Mo.; one son, David (Alania) Gibson Bloomfield; one daughter-in-law, Judy Gibson of Nevis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other family members and many good friends.

Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mike Gibson; one sister, Mary Kucler, who died on May 15, 2012; and two brothers, Orval and Gerald York.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Mo.; with Jerry Weller, pastor of the Orleans Church of Christ of Moulton, officiating. Special musical selections will be provided by Vanessa Weller and Becky Dalrymple.  Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Mo.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Marty Gibson, Travis Dunbar, Lyle York and Cale Hutchings.

Memorials have been established for the Northeast Regional Medical Center Fourth Floor Nursing Staff.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Mo.
