OTTUMWA — Floyd Wylie McClellan Jr., 70, of 8 Bear Creek Estates Dr. died 1:38 a.m. July 13, 2013 at Deerfield Skilled Nursing in Urbandale.
Wylie was born October 27, 1942 to Floyd Wylie and Geraldine "Jerry" Caroline Kline McClellan, Sr. He married Linda Kay Coop October 21, 1967.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Wylie attended Drake University, Northeast Missouri State University and graduated from the Iowa Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Army, was Company Commander in the 224th Engineer Battalion Iowa National Guard and served in the Army Reserves retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.
Wylie worked as a supervisor of accounting for John Morrell & Company and worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works 32 years, retiring as a marketing manager.
He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church having served as deacon, elder, trustee and Chairman of the Board.
Wylie was a member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F & A.M., Christina Court #3 Order of Amaranth, Past High Priest of Clinton Chapter #9, Past Illustrious Master of Ottumwa Council #31 and Past Commander of Malta Commandery #31. He was a board member of Chief Wapello Trails, a Cub Scout & Boy Scout leader, served as secretary of the Wapello County Genealogical Society and was a board member and past president of Deere Community Credit Union.
He was one of the organizers of the Ottumwa Youth Basketball League and was involved in many local sports.
Surviving is his wife, Linda; two sons, Chad Wylie McClellan of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Ryan Christopher (Dr. Heather) McClellan of Waukee; his father, Floyd Wylie McClellan, Sr. of Ottumwa; two sisters, Sally Dow of Ottumwa and Sara Jane (Mike) Heckart of Bettendorf.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.
