Connie Hatfield, 66, of 6439 230th Ave., died 8 a.m. March 24, 2013 at her home.
She was born October 31, 1946 in Ottumwa to Charles and Helen Yacko Hazlett. She attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Walsh High School. She married Richard Hatfield in 1966 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. From this union they had three children, John Hatfield of Wyoming, Jim (Jill) Hatfield of Ottumwa and Joni Brown of Blakesburg.
Connie and Richard owned and operated C&D Hardware in Blakesburg for several years and then moved to Ottumwa where they had C&D Small Engine for several years. Connie lived east of Blakesburg on their farm where they raised black Angus cattle for 38 years, retiring in 2008. She worked at Cargill for 20 years retiring from there in 2008.
Connie enjoyed any kind of car racing, but her true love was NASCAR. She attended many NASCAR races over the years. She was a big Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan, and later joined to the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Fan Club. Connie owned and raced her own race car in the 1980’s at the local race track.
She loved going to Las Vegas whenever she could get away. She loved her home in Ft. Mohave, AZ the last few years and all her friends there.
Connie is survived by her husband, Richard; her three children; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Dalton, Cody, Josh, Abigail and Amelia; a great granddaughter, McKenna; a sister, Cindy Wells of Ottumwa; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Hazlett and a sister, Linda Hazlett.
Connie enjoyed all the friends that came to visit her during her illness, especially her friends from Cargill.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Cremation will follow the mass.
Visitation begins after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
