Donna Fisher, 81, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Donna Dee Fisher, 81, formerly of 803 E. Woodland, died at 10:30 a.m. April 4, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born October 5, 1931 in Mason City to Pearl and Geneva Geist Smith. She married her high school sweetheart, James Lee Fisher on October 23, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1990.

Donna was a 1949 graduate of Unionville High School in Unionville, MO and had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1949. She was a sales associate at Wal-Mart for 9 years considering them her Wal-Mart family.

She loved walking and spending time outdoors. Donna was an avid reader, loving history, Bible studies and mysteries.

Donna and her husband were charter members of Albia Rd. Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 35 years. She had been a member of King’s Daughters. She had been a teachers’ aide at Wilson School. She was very active in PTA, Cub Scouts where she was a den mother and in school activities while her boys were growing up.

Donna was a very loving mother and grandmother who always saw the goodness in the world. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are three sons, Mike (Polly) Fisher of Sycamore, IL, Mark (Colette) Fisher of Ottumwa and John (Julie) Fisher of Naples, FL; three granddaughters, Maggie (Eric) Kelley of Canton, IL, Dr. Molly Fisher of Stamford, CT and Kate (Chris) Walz of Ottumwa; a great-grandson, Xavier Kelley of Canton, IL; a brother, Rev. Jim (Faye) Smith of Tucson, AZ; three sisters, Lois Munden and Nancy (Bill) Cummins both of Unionville, MO, Dorothy Myre of Chesterfield, MO; a sister-in-law, Chris Fisher of Unionville, IA, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donna was the middle of seven siblings and she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Osterberg and Stella McFarland; an infant brother.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Skinner and her brother, Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Her body will be donated to the Des Moines University Department of Anatomy following the service. Inurnment will be in the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, MO at a later date.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Albia Rd. Baptist Church, Ottumwa Public Library or Wapello County Historical Society.
