STOCKPORT — Richard "Pete" Dale Wilcox, 65, of Stockport, formerly of Bloomfield died at 11:23 a.m. July 18, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City
He was born in Pulaski on Nov. 21, 1947 to Hubert and Inez McMains Wilcox and married Sheryl Barker on Oct. 7, 1969 in Memphis, Mo. They divorced in 2000 and remained friends.
Pete lived most of his life in Davis County, going to school at Indian Hills Community College and Kirkwood Community College and worked at Mid-States in Milton as a welder and a truck driver in the area, American Tank in Bloomfield and All-States in Memphis. He served in the Navy from 1965-68 during the Vietnam War. Pete had been a member of the VFW in Bloomfield and a member of the Saddle Clubs in both Drakesville and Bloomfield. He loved his family, enjoyed collecting coins, fast horses and faster cars.
He is survived by two daughters, Serena Sherod (David) of Birmingham and Samantha Wilcox-Zimmer of Stockport; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Jerry Dean Wilcox of Redwood, Calif., and Lawrence William (Barbara) of Lacrosse, Wis.; a sister, Martha Droz of Raleigh, N.C.; and his little dog, Moll, who was his constant companion.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; two sisters, Marilyn Bride and Ann Beitz; and four brothers, Francis James, Farrell "Willie", Leonard "Buzz" and Loren "Buck" Wilcox.
His body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stockport Methodist Church; the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Private family burial will be in Kilbourne Cemetery.
Visitation will be open from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at the church with the family present prior to the service.
Memorials to the Hope Lodge in Iowa City may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 16241 Juniper Trail, Birmingham, Iowa 52535. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, handled the cremation.
