Betty Jane Orman, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 2:56 p.m. January 23, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born November 5, 1935 in Davis County, IA to Dale and Ruby Long Whisler. She married Carl Eugene “Gene” Orman on August 4, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2006.
She was a bookkeeper and co-owner of Orman Construction. Betty loved her animals and was an avid bargain shopper. She was a Little League baseball fan, and a cheerleader for her great-grandchildren’s games.
Surviving is a son, Larry Orman of Ottumwa; a daughter, Pam Evans of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, P.J. (Teresa) Evans, Shad (Zenna Boyd) Evans, Eric (Andrea) Orman and Sarah (Erik) O’Brien; four great-grandchildren, Brody, Tyler, Andrew and Laney; two sisters, Janet Moll of Burlington and Joan Gatlin of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Rick and James Dean Orman; a grandson, Jamie Orman; a great-grandson, Gage Evans; a brother, Dale Whisler; and her step-father, Bill Wintermote.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating.
Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
