Phyllis Rowley, 79, Ottumwa


OTTUMWA — Phyllis Willadene Rowley, 79, formerly of Ottumwa, died Jan. 27, 2013, at the Davis Center Assisted Living in Bloomfield.

Phyllis was born June 24, 1933, in Woodburn to Helen and Ernest Underwood.

She married Leo Lloyd Rowley in Ottumwa on Dec. 29, 1956. She joined Leo in raising his two children, Leo Lloyd Rowley Jr. and Kim Rowley. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2003.

Phyllis graduated from Moravia High School in Moravia. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved her dog, Cassie. Phyllis and Leo enjoyed traveling and went on many hunting and fishing vacations.

Phyllis retired from the South Side Medical Clinic as a medical technologist. She later returned to work at the Ottumwa Clinic and has since retired.

Phyllis is survived by her stepchildren, Leo Lloyd Rowley of Colorado and Kim Rowley Stoneberger of Florida; her mother, Helen Underwood Querrey of Ottumwa; four brothers, Ronnie (Cindy) Underwood of Albia, Gary (Jane) Underwood of Blakesburg, Dennis (Linda) Underwood of Moravia and Kenneth Underwood of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Graveside services are planned for a later date.
