Ottumwa Courier

OTTUMWA — Wallace “Bud” Pixley, 83, of Clive, IA and formerly of Ottumwa, died April 13, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

He was born March 13, 1930 in Ottumwa to William and Ruth Pixley.  He married Ann Parks on August 20, 1952.

Bud was a 1948 graduate of Ottumwa High School and a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield.  He served in the Iowa Army National Guard.  He worked for the Ottumwa Community School District for many years, as principal of several Ottumwa elementary schools and as vice principal of Evans Middle School.  After his retirement, Bud worked with abused and neglected children as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA).

Bud loved the St. Louis Cardinals (and hated the Cubs).  A lifelong Democrat, Bud never shied away from a political discussion.

He remained physically active throughout his life, refusing to let his Parkinson’s disease get in the way of a good workout.  He was an avid reader and possessed a sharp mind and an even sharper wit.

A loving and dedicated grandpa, his grandkids always knew Grandpa Bud could be counted on for endless games, hikes, and other fun.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Pixley of Clive, IA; three sons, Greg (Sue) Pixley of Ottumwa, Jeff Pixley (Jean Philibert) of San Francisco, CA, and Mike (Linda) Pixley of Clive, IA.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Laura (Darin) Nelson, Brett (fiancée Kendra) Pixley, Kate and Will Pixley; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Tyler Nelson; a cousin, Cherie (Max) Miller of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating.  Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston 5820 Winwood Dr. Johnston, IA, 50131 or Iowa Chapter of American Parkinson’s Disease Association, PO Box 507
