---- — EDDYVILLE — Betty C. Akers, 94, of West Liberty, formerly of Eddyville, died April 14, 2013, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Betty was born the daughter of Victor and Ethel Cling. She attended Eddyville High School and later the University of Iowa, William Penn College and Beauty School in Des Moines. On Oct. 12, 1941, Betty was united in marriage to Ralph Akers in Minneapolis, Minn.
She had taught in Country School near Eddyville, worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Implement Dealership, Ford Garage, West Liberty Ready Mix and served as the librarian at the West Liberty Library for over 35 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Church United, Eastern Star, Rotary, T.T.T. Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Joe (JoAnne) Akers, two grandchildren, Bret Akers and his significant other Linda Coudron, and Brad (Mindy) Akers, all of West Liberty; six grandchildren, Gibson Akers, Alie Akers, Abie Akers, Macy Akers, McKinzie Akers and Joseph Akers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ralph.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Church United in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at the First Church United, 1100 N. Calhoun St., West Liberty.
Memorials may be made to West Liberty Fire and Rescue Unit, Ronald McDonald House or University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
