FREMONT — Bill Dyke, 88, of Fremont, died peacefully on June 4, 2013, under the loving care of his family and the staff at the ORHC.
Bill was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Buxton. On June 15, 1952, he married the former Hettie Mae Watson. In 1942, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Bill graduated from Iowa State University as a master gardener and worked at John Deere in Ottumwa for 34 years, retiring in 1979. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Marilyn (Bud) Trimble; son, Donald (Jo) Dyke; daughter-in-law, Amy Dyke; and grandchildren, Charles Trimble, David Dyke, Angela Trimble and Amanda (Jacob) Dixson. Bill was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Ruby; his wife, Hettie; and his son, Gregory.
Services with military honors were held at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
