ALBIA — David Frank Steckelberg, 66, of Lovilia, died June 13, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born Sept. 24, 1946, in Carroll to Vernon and Darlene (Atkins) Steckelberg. David graduated from Manilla High School, class of 1964. He then received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and his master’s degree in marine biology from Utah State University. He married Dixie Lee Kendall on May 26, 1979. She later passed away on Dec. 18, 2003. He served eight years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a chemist for Ajinomoto, retiring in 2010.
He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and was a wine enthusiast.
He is survived by his siblings, Charlene Shroeder of Greenwood, Del., and Tim (Janene) Steckelberg of Missouri Valley; stepchildren, Clyde Williams and Tina Stafford of Albia, Brian (Michelle) Williams of Albia and Lynn Anne (Andrew) Des Planque of Lovilia; two nieces, Carman (Joel) Harris of Missouri Valley and Denise Shroeder of Austin, Texas; one nephew, Gary (Tina) Shroeder of Las Vegas, Nev.; and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie; and brother-in-law, Jim Shroeder.
There was a private family burial of cremated remains in Marysville Cemetery on Monday.
