---- — BRIGHTON — Emma Josephine Pacha, 96, of Washington, formerly of Brighton, died June 22, 2013 at All American Care Center in Washington.

She was born Sept. 11, 1916, south of Brighton, the daughter of John J. and Agnes Fritz Pacha. Josephine grew up in the Brighton area, graduated from Brighton High School in 1934 and from Mercy Hospital in Burlington in 1947 with a registered nurse degree. She lived all of her life in the Brighton area. Josephine was employed at housekeeping duties in Fairfield and clerk duties for Dexter Co. in Fairfield before assuming nursing duties at Washington County Hospital where she worked for many years. She retired in 1973 to care for her parents. Josephine was a member of Sts. Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society at East Pleasant Plain and the Washington County Nurses Association.

She is survived by two brothers, Paul and Charles (Maggie) Pacha, both of Washington; three sisters: Mary Redlinger (Jim) of Washington, Isabelle Adam of Richland and Helen Hesseltine of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Anna Sheridan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain; the Rev. Robert Striegel and Rev. Troy Richmond concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Sts. Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain; the Rev. Jacob Greiner officiating. Visitation will open at 5 p.m. with the family present 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to St. Jude Children's' Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., St. Joseph Cemetery Fund or HCI Hospice of Mt. Pleasant, may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 122 Green Meadows Drive, Washington, Iowa 52353. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
