OTTUMWA — Darrell E. Adams, 89, formerly of 110 E. Pennsylvania Ave., died at 9 p.m. April 19 at his home at Prairie Hills Assisted Living.
He was born November 18, 1924, in Memphis, Mo., to James Thomas and Welda Mae Jewell Tanzy Adams. He married Phyllis Reeves on June 9, 1951.
Darrell was a graduate of Memphis High School in Memphis, Mo., and of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., earning a degree in engineering. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army.
Darrell worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation and was an engineer for the city of Ottumwa for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a 50-year member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F.&A.M. and a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Darrell enjoyed playing in the Senior Golf League.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; a nephew, John Gingrich; a niece, Shelia (Tom) Prichard of Wichita, Kan; and dear friends, Steve and Charlotte Kovacs of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A private service for the family will be held following the visitation. Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be in the Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, Mo.
