---- — OTTUMWA — MaryElla Harrelson, 74, passed away on April 11, 2014, in Alamogordo, N.M., after an eight-year battle with cancer.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1939, in Ottumwa to Robert and Esther Morrison Howard.
After graduating from Pulaski High School, she married Gary Harrelson and together they raised three boys, John, Mike and Jeff. They later divorced. MaryElla married longtime friend Buck Wheaton, and they later divorced.
Mary Ella assisted her husband, Gary, in many business ventures, including the Milton Lumber Yard. She also was administrator at the Bloomfield Day Care Center, sold Avon and was employed by Van Buren County Hospital and Clinics.
She was Mother Advisor for Rainbow for Girls in Milton and was active in her retirement community in Alamogordo.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Tammy) Harrelson of Alamogordo, N.M., and Jeffery Harrelson of Bloomfield; stepdaughter Rose Wheaton (John Garnett) of Bloomfield; grandchildren, Christine, Heather (Bret), Michele (Scott), Tiffany, Lougan, Lucas, Jeffery; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Kayne, Klaire, Coralee; and brother, John (Susan) Howard, Bloomfield; as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and son, John Edward Harrelson.
A joint memorial service will be held for MaryElla and her son, John Harrelson, at a later date in Pulaski, Iowa.
