ALBIA — Dawn Marie Smith, 33, of Albia, died April 19, 2014, at her home.
The daughter of Michael Todd Smith and Sherry Lea (Hampton) Smith, she was born Nov. 18, 1980, in Albia.
Dawn was baptized in 1991 at Calvary Baptist Church in Leon. She graduated from Albia High School in 1999. She attended Southwestern Community College and received her degree as a registered nurse in 2005. She worked at the Monroe County Hospital as a certified nurses’ assistant, as a dietician and as a registered nurse. Later Dawn took a job being a traveling nurse, working for a year at a time in Arizona, Texas and Iowa. She enjoyed sightseeing in those new areas and understanding the culture there. In her free time she enjoyed art; Dawn herself was accomplished in pencil drawings. She also crocheted, gardened, canned and played cards. Spending time with her nieces and nephews and friends, Rachel Schlotter and Hunter Aalbers, was always a highlight.
Survivors include her parents, Sherry Hampton Smith of Albia and Mike and Georgia Smith of Chino, Calif.; brothers, Richard Smith and wife Tammy of Green City, Mo., and Jeff Smith and wife Tina of Albia; nieces and nephews, Cole, Trey, Kaydine and Abbey Smith and Dacota, Marshall and Vanessa Smith; grandparents, Fran Morey of Leon, Shirley Smith of Blakesburg and Guy Hampton and wife Jeannine of Leon; aunts and uncles; cousins and other relatives; and her beloved cat Blossom. She will be missed by her friends and family.
Preceding her in death were her grandfathers, Don Smith and Richard Morey; and uncles, Kirk and Mike Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon; Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon.
