OTTUMWA — Delores Pilcher, 87, formerly of 1007 S. James St., died at 6:45 a.m. April 28, 2014, at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield.
She was born February 7, 1927, in Ottumwa to George and Mattie Cole Christy. She married Clifford Pilcher on December 12, 1942.
Delores was a member of First Church of the Open Bible, and she taught Sunday school at First Foursquare Church.
She did custom ironing and made all of her family’s clothing. She grew a large garden and canned. Delores and her husband had been members of Good Sams and enjoying camping, traveling and wintering in Arizona.
Delores always had an open ear for everyone and never said anything bad about anyone.
Surviving are her husband, Clifford; her children, Dolores Anne (Burdess) Drummond of Ottumwa, Edgar “Ed” (Maxine) Pilcher of Jonesboro, Ark., Shirley (Mike) Hart of Cedar Rapids and Joan (Edward) Nydle of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Christy of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Pilcher; three brothers, Harold, Donnie and Ralph Christy; a sister, Josephine Bridgeman and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Open Bible with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
