OTTUMWA — Thomas Plies, 57, of Ottumwa, was called home at 5:31 a.m. April 30, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born August 9, 1956, in Iowa City to Carroll and Helen Kelly Plies.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He had worked several jobs including at JB’s Restaurant and AYM Inc.
He played guitar and sung in the band “Montana” in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Helen and William Braden; two sons, Tommy (fiancée Chrisshanna) and Aaron Plies; a beautiful granddaughter, Kaitlan, and grandson Raden; his loving companion of 33 years, Linda Mason and her children, Mike (Ressa) Mason, Lisa (Tim) Wick, Tracy Frymoyer; her grandsons, Zack, Kevin and Johnathan; a sister, Kim (Steve) Grothe; two nephews, Steven and Tristan (Christa-dork-dork) Grothe; three great-nieces, Jolie, Emily and Paige Grothe; and numerous cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Carroll Plies; and his cousin, Kelly, who was like a brother; numerous aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.
His body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church. A potluck dinner will follow.
