OTTUMWA — John B. Ingels, 82, of 517 Frank St., died at 3:05 a.m. May 4, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born August 26, 1931, in Harvey, Ill., to Truman and Mary Ingels.
A graduate of Manchester High School in Manchester, Iowa, John served in the military for a short time.
He owned and operated Ingels Variety Store and was a contractor for the U.S. Postal Service.
John was a member of Ottumwa Evening Lions and enjoyed working the Iowa Hawkeye football games. He was also a member of the Triangle Investment Partnership of Ottumwa.
Surviving are his daughter, Sheryl (Wayne) Ask of Rose Hill; three grandchildren, Tara (Ryan) Webster of Ottumwa, Jerrod Glasgow (fiancée Jessica Clarahan) of Delta, Caitlan Murphy of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Blaine and Kristen Webster and Kaylee Glasgow; his companion, Patty L. Hurley and her children and grandchildren; a sister, Frances Lee of Charlotte, N.C.; several nieces and nephews including Jeff Smith of Pharr, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Claire Munn.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Young officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ottumwa Evening Lions Club.
