EDDYVILLE — Diane Lucille Fugate, 57, of Eddyville, passed away May 2, 2014, after a tough battle with Mesothelioma at her home under the care of Rick and her sisters.
Diane was born Aug. 24, 1956, to Walter and Lucille (O’Brien) Lahart in Albia.
Diane graduated from Albia High School, class of 1974. After high school, she worked at Monroe Plastics and at Chamberlain Manufacturing, both in Albia. She then worked at Superior Ideal in Oskaloosa. She worked at J & D Diner and Cargill, both in Eddyville. Diane also worked at Dooley Manufacturing in Oskaloosa, and she loved it.
Diane enjoyed being outdoors, doing things such as gardening, camping and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles with Rick. She loved food and especially loved spending time with her family and her cats.
Diane is survived by her companion, Rick Smith of Eddyville; her mother, Lucille Lahart of Albia; five siblings, Paul Lahart of Albia, Sue Wenke of Donnellson, Connie (Carl) Carter of Albia, Linda (James) Harwood of Omaha, Neb.; and Julie Chilton of Omaha Neb. Diane is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dusty Fugate; her father, Walter; three brothers, Stephen, Tony and Gary Lahart; a brother-in-law, Robert Wenke; and a great-nephew, Zachary Beary.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Georgetown; Fr. Patrick Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in St Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Georgetown.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Diane’s family present from 4-8 p.m. A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Eddyville Fire Department, the Eddyville Library, Good Samaritan Hospice or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Georgetown.
