BLOOMFIELD — Carl Dean Van Horn, 81, of Bloomfield, died May 7, 2014, at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
He was born May 8, 1932, in Davis County to Lester Deo and Georgia Helen Francis Van Horn. He married Joan Porter Nov. 26, 1950, in Bloomfield. Carl was educated in the Davis County Schools and graduated from Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Denver, Colorado. After serving in the United States Army for two years, he was involved in farming with his father. In 1957, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked with ServiceMaster for several years before spending the majority of his working years as a technician for Sears Roebuck Company, retiring in 1990. He lived in Colorado for 13 years and lived in Nebraska for 25 years. He returned to Bloomfield when he retired. Carl was a member of Christian Churches at his various places of residence and served as an elder for several years.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Julie (David) Boening of Lakewood, Colorado; son, Dean (Ruth) Van Horn of Hugoton, Kansas; grandson Phillip Van Horn of Wichita, Kansas; and two nephews, Larry Van Horn of Springfield, Virginia, Danny Van Horn of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Van Horn; and a sister-in-law, Esther Van Horn.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the family present to greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
