BLOOMFIELD — Harvey Ford “Bud” Leon Jr., 83, of Bloomfield, died May 8, 2014, at his home with his wife Marilyn at his side.
He was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Bloomfield to Harvey Ford and Hazel Kratzer Leon. Bud graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1949. He joined the National Guard and later joined the Air Force, serving from 1953 until 1957. He married Odessa Dingle in 1951 and later married Marilyn Humphreys Murphy on Aug. 15, 1981. Bud was a longtime businessman in Bloomfield operating Leon Hardware and Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency. He was general manager of Nockonwood Industries and retired from Mid States Manufacturing in Milton. Bud enjoyed golfing and sitting on the front porch visiting with neighbors. He loved spending time with his family.
Bud is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn; children, Julie Lund of Nevada, Iowa, Sherrie (Bill) Lawson of Bloomfield, Lorrie (Jane) Murphy of Springdale, Arkansas, Robert (Cheri) Leon of Janesville, Kristie Leon of Bloomfield, Julie (John) Kauzlarich of Largo, Florida, Tracy (Deb) Murphy of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Aaron (Becky) Murphy of Osage; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Christy of Bloomfield; father-in-law, Vernon Humphreys of Bloomfield; sister-in-law, Ginny (Jim) Gieske of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Jedd Humphreys of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Shaunna Miller, Whitney Mathias; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Perk) Huffman, Harlan Christy; and a son-in-law, David Lund.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial of the cremains with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church, Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties or to the donor’s choice.
